Talley's Group External Concrete Hardstand
Optimised Design for Large External Concrete Hardstand
Inforce was commissioned to deliver a high-performance solution for a large external concrete hardstand (3,500 m²), designed for heavy machinery and container storage. We focused on creating a subbase structure that could reliably withstand intense loading while minimising both excavation and soil removal. Our design then dove into the concrete hardstand and for this we used Radforce and Proforce 80 fibres for exceptional load bearing capacity, corrosion resistance and crack control.
The integration of Neoloy® Tough-Cell technology was a core part of our approach. Neoloy Tough-Cells are advanced geocells made from a nano-polymeric alloy (NPA), offering unparalleled stiffness, creep resistance, and service life compared to conventional HDPE geocells or other reinforcement methods. By mechanically confining and stabilising the subbase, Neoloy Tough-Cells significantly increase the bearing capacity of soft soils and enhance the modulus of the road base
Key Benefits Delivered:
- Superior Load Support: Neoloy Tough-Cells create a stable, semi-rigid “mattress” that distributes heavy loads efficiently, enabling the hardstand to support frequent heavy traffic and container stacking—even over problematic or soft soils
- Reduced Construction Costs: The system allows for the use of locally available, lower-quality materials as infill, reducing the need for imported aggregate and minimising earthworks
- Long-Term Durability: With high tensile strength and resistance to deformation, Neoloy Tough-Cells ensure the pavement structure resists rutting, cuts, and degradation, resulting in lower maintenance requirements and extended service life
- Environmental Efficiency: The reduced excavation and material requirements mean less disruption to the site and a smaller environmental footprint. The technology is also suitable for use in sensitive areas, as it minimises resource use and on-site disturbance
- Enhanced Performance: The improved stiffness and confinement provided by Neoloy Tough-Cells lead to better ride quality, reduced wear and tear on vehicles, and increased operational efficiency for the facility
Radforce & Proforce:
- Improved Structural Performance: Radforce macro synthetic fibres provide full-depth reinforcement, enhancing crack control and durability while eliminating the need for traditional steel mesh in slabs-on-ground.
- Enhanced Load Capacity: Proforce 80 hookend steel fibres significantly boost post-crack performance and load-bearing strength, making the slab more resilient under heavy or repetitive loads.
- Faster, Safer Construction: Both fibre types simplify reinforcement logistics, reduce manual handling, and speed up pour cycles—leading to safer, more efficient site operations.
- Cost Efficiency: By replacing conventional mesh and reducing labour and material requirements, the combined fibre system lowers overall construction costs.
- Long-Term Durability: The corrosion-resistant properties of Radforce and the fatigue resistance of Proforce 80 contribute to a longer-lasting slab with reduced maintenance needs.
By leveraging Neoloy Tough-Cells, Radforce and Proforce 80, our optimised design not only met the demanding performance criteria for heavy-duty use but also delivered a cost-effective, sustainable, and future-proof solution for Talley’s Group.
